Gireesh Kumar Thekkum Kara

Gireesh Kumar THEKKUM KARA, was born on 11 January 1984, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Banaras Hindu University, India.
He is a Lead Researcher and Visiting Professor at the University of Pavia, Italy, where he contributes to the ‘Reconnecting With Your Culture’ (RWYC) initiative.
Earlier, he served the Central University of Kerala and ARCI, Hyderabad. He has PhD in Open Source Integrated Library Systems from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, and UGC NET and JRF.
His distinctions include the GEFP International Fellowship (2024), and Best Young Teacher Award (2021).
Has over 60 publications and is course instructor for NPTEL-SWAYAM on Library Automation.
Currently, he is Chief Editor of the journal ‘Informatics Studies. An International Scholarly Journal’, and represents India in the e-LiS (e-prints in library & information science) the international open archives on information science based in Italy. His research interests span Heritage Informatics, Open Knowledge and Digital Humanities
