An educator since 1991, he holds a degree in History, a postgraduate qualification in Education, a master’s degree in History, Defence and International Relations, and a PhD in Urban Studies with a dissertation on the Lisbon neighbourhood of Saint Joseph. He currently serves as President of the Portuguese History Teachers Association.Driven by a personal and professional commitment to fostering fairer and more inclusive approaches to history education, he has co-authored several secondary-level textbooks centered on the critical analysis of primary sources, often highlighting unconventional or contrasting perspectives and amplifying voices traditionally underrepresented in mainstream narratives. He was also the proposer and co-author of the discipline History, Cultures and Democracy, introduced into the national curriculum in 2019, which promotes a less Eurocentric, multiperspective approach to history teaching and emphasizes students’ autonomous and critical engagement with the past.
