Vincent Lorent, is a Professor of 1st class since 2008 at Université de Paris 13 Nord (France). After his Ph.D. in Physics at Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium), he was Postdoc at the University of Perugia (Italy) and at the Clarendon Laboratory (Oxford, UK), in the group of Prof. C. Foot. In the Laser Physics Laboratory of Université Paris XIII, since 1991 and until a sabbatical leave in Harvard in 1998, his research activity was on atoms optics with shaped optical and magnetic fields. From 1999 to 2013 he was the principal investigator of the research team Condensation de Bose-Einstein at the Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers. Head of the Physics Department between 2006 and 2009, he is now Director of the Doctorate School Galilée, since December 2008. After his sabbatical leave at Kavli Institute-TU Delft (Netherlands) in the group of Prof. N. Dekker, his actual research activity is on the process of radiation damage of biological tissues at the molecular level, aiming to contribute in improving the performances of hadron therapy.
