Professor in the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. A graduate of the School of Architecture at Yale University, she had practiced architecture until she became a full-fledged academic in the late 1980’s. Based at the Technion, she had also held visiting appointments at MIT, Stanford University, Delft University of Technology, University of Montreal and Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
Over the years she taught and coordinated a large number of studio courses, but gradually she became very interested in researching the processes of design learning and practicing. Her research interests include design cognition, design reasoning, design representation, visual thinking in design and design education. These topics informed her writings and the graduate seminars she taught. Gabriela continues to carry out research and supervise theses in her areas of interest. She is the author of a large number of papers; the co-editor of Design Representation, published by Springer Verlag in 2004, and the author of Linkography: Unfolding the design process, published by MIT Press in 2014.
