Olivier Perrin

Olivier Perrin was born in 1955 in Paris. He is one of the grandchildren of Jean Bonnerot (1882–1964), Chief Curator of the Sorbonne Library. His family still counts many active librarians. In 1978, his encounter with Martine Blanc–Montmayeur, head of the Public Information Library among other institutions (1993–2001), was professionally defining. He has been working in public libraries since 1978, especially in the districts of Sevran (Seine–Saint-Denis), France, where misery and “information poverty”, as categorized by Elfreda Chatman (1942–2002), are palpable socio–economic and informational realities. This is what led him to define himself sometimes as a “field librarian”, favoring human and documentary mediation interactions as close as possible to the informational “needs” in the “service relationship” with users of all origins. He also owes a lot to Madjid Ihadjadene, who has helped improve the quality of his thesis work.
