Jesùs Santamaría graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of La Laguna (Spain, 1981) and a he obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Salford (England, 1985). He is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Zaragoza since 1990 and deputy director of Institute of Nanotechnology of Aragon since 2007, where he leads the research group Nanostrutured Films and Particles. He has had positions of responsibility as Dean of the Faculty of Zaragoza and Director of Research at the Regional Government of Aragón (Spain). He is Editor of Chemical Engineering Journal and he is on the Scientific Council of the Max Plank Institute (Germany). It is also part of the Executive Board: Networking Biomedical Research Center for Bioengeneering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine since 2011. He has received numerous awards: 3M Innovation Award (2001); Pérez Castro Research Award (2008); Hong Kong Institute of Advanced Studies Distinguished Lecturer (2008); Doctor Honoris Causa, National University of Litoral, Argentina (2010), Cervantes Conference on General Military Academy (2013), Inaugural Conference, University of Zaragoza (2014). His research focus on nanopores as chemical sensors, microreactors not conventional reactors, controlled release of drugs in nanotechnology; nanosafety, nanocomposites and synthesis of nanomaterials. He previously worked in oxidation of hydrocarbons, simulation and optimization of catalytic reactors, membrane reactors, etc.
