Janice Ansine

I manage citizen science projects at The Open University, including the award winning iSpot (www.iSpotnature.org ), that help the public go on their own 'learning journeys' using innovative, easily accessible web based tools and resources. My responsibilities include supporting informal to formal learning, public engagement, communications and outreach for science-based initiatives (see: www.Treezilla.org and www.opensciencelab.ac.uk). I also disseminate and share best practice supporting the Science Faculty's and University's citizen science, engagement, impact and related strategic activities.A former environment reporter and communications consultant, I also have a comprehensive background in project / programme management, managing projects focused on communications, public engagement, outreach and behaviour change around sustainability, biodiversity and the environment for over 15 years.I hold a B.A. (Hons) in Media and Communications (UWI), an MSc in Environmental Change & Management (Oxford) and an MSc in Science & Society (Open University). I have conducted post graduate research in environmental change and ecological footprinting, biodiversity, sustainable development and science communications. Additionally, I am a PRINCE2 certified project manager and I have training in management coaching.My current research interest is public involvement with blended learning incorporating online tools, multimedia, engagement, citizen science, informal and formal learning around biodiversity.
