Paola Giacomoni, assistant professor of History of Philosophy at the University of Bologna and later full professor at the University of Trento. Her work focuses on the philosophy of nature, the history of ideas, and the relationship between philosophy and science. Her research interests include the idea of Bildung in Wilhelm von Humboldt, the philosophy of nature in Goethe, the Romantics, Georg Simmel, René Descartes’ theory of perception, the idea of nature and landscape, and the connections between philosophy and emotions. She has curated major exhibitions on art and science at the Mart in Rovereto, was visiting professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris in 2011 and 2017, and Senior Fellow at the Italian Academy of Columbia University in New York in 2015. She has authored numerous articles, essays, and several monographs, including Le forme e il vivente. Morfologia e filosofia della natura in J.W. Goethe (Naples 1993), Classicità e frammento: Georg Simmel goethiano (Naples 1995), Il laboratorio della natura. La montagna e l’immagine del mondo tra Rinascimento e Romanticismo (Milan, 2001; new ed. 2019; Spanish translation, 2023), and Ardore: prospettive sull’ira da Achille agli Indignados (Carocci, 2014). She has also co‑edited volumes such as Montagna, arte scienza mito (Milan, 2003), Jacopo Aconcio: il sapere scientifico e l’idea di tolleranza (Trento, 2005), and The Dark Side: Philosophical Reflections on the “Negative Emotions” (New York, 2021). Her forthcoming book, La Terra siamo noi. Una filosofia per il pianeta, will be published by Mondadori in 2026. She has long been a columnist for the Trentino–Alto Adige edition of “Corriere della sera” and has written for “Il Manifesto”, “Domani” and most recently “Appunti” edited by Stefano Feltri.
