Head of the Institute for Regional Development at Eurac Research since 2009, Thomas Streifeneder has a PhD in Economic Geography (University of Munich). Through his scientific career and PhD he became an expert in the development of the agricultural and socioeconomic structures in the Alps and their driving forces. Since 2001, he has been a researcher at EURAC, and since 2009 responsible for the supervision and strategic development of the Institute. He has collaborated in numerous interdisciplinary EU–funded projects such as: SIMRA — Social Innovation in Marginalised Rural Areas (H2020), PlurAlps — Enhancing capacities for a pluralistic Alpine Space (Alpine Space Programme); INTESI — Integrated Territorial Strategies for Services of General Interest (Alpine Space), ESPON Project — The relevance of municipality data COMUNIS — Inter–Municipal Cooperation for Strategic Steering of SME–oriented Location Development in the Alpine Space (Alpine Space); Task Force Greece — Recommendations for strategic development of business park development in Greece Consultancy on behalf of the European Commission. He is member of the International Editorial Board (IEB) of the Journal Mountain Research and Development (MRD), the Italian delegation as expert of the platform mountain agriculture of the Alpine Convention and the INTESI Think Tank Group.
