Her doctoral research — Interior Design of Cruise Ships: a Smart Materials-Driven Approach (supervisor: Prof. Musio-Sale, final mark: Excellent) — developed an interdisciplinary framework integrating smart materials, adaptive technologies and design methodology in constrained interior environments. This technical expertise in materials science and spatial optimisation translates directly into the vehicle design themes of the present volume, where material selection, structural efficiency and technological feasibility are central concerns alongside purely formal design considerations.
Peri has been involved in the Genoa Laboratory since its inception, contributing to the Design del Prodotto 2 studio across multiple roles: first as Teaching Assistant in the Double Degree programme UNIGE-BUCT (Beijing University of Chemical Technology), then as Cultore della Materia and Former Adjunct Professor in Technical Drawing (Disegno) and 2D/3D representation at the University of Genoa. In February–March 2025 she held a Visiting Professor position at the University of Beijing, where she taught Industrial Design — bringing the laboratory’s research themes into an international pedagogical context and extending their cross-cultural reach.
Her publication record spans smart materials, cruise ship interior design, electric and hybrid naval vessels, autonomous urban mobility and generative AI in design. She is first and corresponding author of the two Smart City Conference papers (2025, 2026) that constitute the direct published foundation of this volume.
