Simon Johnson has a remarkable and multifaceted international career as a virtuoso organist, conductor and composer. He has been involved in all of the national occasions that have taken place at St Paul’s since his appointment in 2008, including the funeral service of Baroness Thatcher and the Diamond Jubilee and 90th Birthday Celebrations of Her Majesty the Queen. Recitals have taken him all over Europe and the USA, as well as to many of the premier venues in the UK, including a Royal Festival Hall debut in 2017. 2018 has seen him undertake two concert tours of the USA, also of Scandinavia, Germany and The Netherlands, with further engagements in Russia and China to follow. Recent orchestral conducting engagements with the City of London Sinfonia have included Bach’s St John Passion, Bruckner’s Mass in E minor, Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No 3, Messiaen’s L’Ascension, Gershwin’s An American in Paris and Strauss’ Metamorphosen. He has also performed with groups such as the LSO, RPO, and The Sixteen, recorded for Decca and Hyperion, been published by OUP and Peters, and worked with Wes Anderson on the Oscar, Bafta and Grammy award-winning soundtrack for The Grand Budapest Hotel.
