Janet Bowker is a tenured researcher and Adjunct Professor in English Linguistics and Translation in the Faculty of Economics, “Sapienza” University of Rome. Her research interests lie mainly in academic, institutional and professional discourse analysis, corpus linguistics and socio-cognitive pragmatics. She has been compiling a specialised corpus of business and organizational discourse for a number of years. These have been used to explore topics which include: the linguistic resources and pragmatic processes of description, evaluation and persuasion in internal and external company discourse; contrastive studies of genre and register in multimodal organizational communication and the nature of virtual professional space. She has also investigated intercultural business interactions in client encounters in multinational corporations.
