Eugenio Martinelli
Eugenio Martinelli graduated with honors in Electronic engineering in 1999 at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, with a thesis entitled Project and realization of a multisensory system for the identification of lung cancer and in 2003 he received his doctorate in artificial sensorial systems and learning at the same university with a thesis entitled Investigation on alternative approaches to chemical sensors data treatment. In 2002 and 2003, during his doctorate, he was visiting phd student [Marie Curie Fellowship] at Linkoping University in the group of Professor Lundstrom. From 2004 to 2008 he worked at the Department of Electronic engineering of University of Rome Tor Vergata with a temporary contract [FIRB]. From October 2008 he is a researcher at the university faculty of engineering at the same university. Three patents and more than 120 publications on international journals and congresses (with more than 1100 citations and H index equal to 18). His activity is mainly focused on sensor and sensorial system development and their application in medical, industrial and space world. In 2000 he won the call for Young researchers project at the Tor Vergata University. In 2005 he was the accountable of two scientific projects, Hearth Beat Monitoring and Electronic Nose Monitoring for the ENEIDE Space Mission. In 2006 he was the scientific responsible for the project Electronic Nose funded by the Italian Space Agency. He held various presentations at national and international conferences. In 2007 he was keynote speaker at the conference of Italian Association on Sensors and Microsystems entitled A bio-inspired architecture for chemical sensors array. In 2008 he was invited to give a lesson on multivariate analysis of signal coming from a sensors array, for the Gospel Summer School organized by the Network of Excellence on olfaction GOSPEL. In 2010 he was the Scientific Responsible of the experiment “Italian Electronic nose for Space Exploration (IENOS)” in the ST-134 Space Shuttle mission where a network of electronic noses has been utilized to monitor the air quality in the international Space Station. In the 2011, Dr. Martinelli has also won a grant from the Veronesi Foundation for a project aimed at detecting cancer lesion by means a sensorial system. Dr. Martinelli has been a member of organizing committee of main international conference on Sensors (ISOEN 2002 and Eurosensors 2004) and the thirteenth conference of Italian Association on Sensors and Microsystems of 2008, of which he has also been one of the editor of the proceeding book. From the 2011 is a meber of the scientific committee of the National conference on Sensors. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal Journal of Sensors. In the same year, Dr. Martinelli is also invited to join as member of the IEEE task Force on Computational Intelligence for Chemometric and Chemical Sensing. He is also the author of the book Introduction on the analysis of experiment data [ed. Aracne, ISBN, 88-548-0593-9]. He is also a reviewer of several journals and international conferences in the sensors field (Sensors And Actuators B, IEEE Sensors Journal, etc..). His scientific activity boasts many international collaborations among which: Likoping University [Sweden, Prof. I. Lundstrom] sensorial system based on an optical sensor array and their applications; Non Linear Science Institute of San Diego [ USA, Dr R. Huerta] sensorial system development and bio -inspired models; Tarragona University [Spain, Prof. E. Llobet] for novel algorithms for the optimization of thermal modulation for metal oxide sensor. Gottingen University [Germany, Prof. D.Schild ] for the development of bio-inspired model for chemical sensors signal processing University of Pennsylvania [USA, Dr. N. Zetola ] for the development of low-cost instrument for the tubercolosis detection by means of breath analysis.
