Henk Borgdorff (born Hendrik Anne Borgdorff, The Hague) is an Amsterdam-based academic specializing in music theory and artistic research. He is emeritus professor of Research in the Arts at Leiden University and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (University of the Arts The Hague). Trained in music theory, philosophy, and sociology, he earned his PhD at Leiden University in 2012. Borgdorff has played a key role in developing artistic research in Europe, founding major programs and initiatives such as docARTES, the Journal for Artistic Research (JAR), the Society for Artistic Research (SAR), and the Research Catalogue. His work focuses on the theoretical, philosophical, and political foundations of research in the arts.
