Stephen joined the University of Edinburgh as a Lecturer in Accounting in 1991, having trained as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young. He was subsequently Head of Department and Professor of Accounting History. In 2003 he was appointed Professor of Accounting at Cardiff Business School and served as the Head of the Accounting and Finance Section.
