Luigi Guerriero

Luigi Guerriero graduates magna cum laude in Architecture on 14 November 1989 from the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 1994 he is appointed Ph.D. in Conservation of Architectural Heritage at the Architecture History and Restoration Department at the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 1994–95 he is a scholarship holder at Cybernetics Institute of the CNR, within the Building Finalized Project. Expert in the field of “Restoration”, in 1991–94 he is assistant supervisor of graduation theses in Architectural Restoration at the University of Naples “Federico II”. From 1995 to 1999, as an external expert, he is assistant supervisor of a lot of graduation theses in Architectural Restoration at the II University of Naples (now “Università della Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”). From 1995 to 1999 he is professor on contract of “Restoration Theories” at the University Institute of Architecture of Venice and of “Restoration Theory and History” and “Constructive Features of Historical Building” at the II University of Naples. In 1999 he wins the comparative valutation procedure for a researcher job at Restoration published in March 1999 by the Faculty of Architecture of II University of Naples and he comes on duty on 16.2.2000. In 2000, according to the comparative valutation procedure, he is eligible to a job as tenured associate professor of the SSD H13X -Restoration published in March 1999 by the University of Florence. On 28.12.2000 he comes on duty as an associate professor of the SSD-ICAR19-Restoration at the Faculty of Architecture of the II University of Naples (now “Università della Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”). He is confirmed in his tenure in 2004. From March 2000 he is a member of the teaching staff on the Ph.D. in Conservation of Architectural Heritage at the II University of Naples. From 1.11.2010 he is Coordinator of the Restoration Section of the Ph.D. in Architectural and Urban Design and Architectural Restoration of the II University of Naples. He organized and directed research groups and national scientific initiatives. He organized national meetings and workshops. He was member of the scientific council of national meetings and exhibitions. His researches concern theories and history of restoration, particularly regarding the protagonists and the interventions in the half of the twentieth century, the mensiocronologic characterization of the traditional constructive elements, with the related protocol of analysis of deterioration and of structural modeling and the methods and techniques of urban restoration, with close historical examination oriented to the removal of buildings of cultural value from the not–historical category of the “traditional” built and to the attribution to the same one of a specific historical individuality. His scientific activity is characterized by a pronounced inclination towards interdisciplinary researches, that allow him inserting in a rigorous critic–methodological consideration about restoration (that produced innovations recognized by the scientific community), studies in the field of structural modeling of masonry buildings, stratigrafic analysis of monumental complexes and use of innovative technologies like the laser-scanner survey and the extermination of bio–damaging agents through microwaves. He coordinated research groups, as a senior researcher or a main investigator, constitued by experts of construction techinque, christian and medievals archeologists, data collectors-representers (survey of Pantheon) and mechanical engineers. He is author of more than 110 scientific works in which he deepens essential features of history and theory of restoration, he created innovative methods for metrologic characterization of building after–medieval components.
