George (Gino) Pavia is a senior member of the civil service in Malta, with over 30 years’ experience in various senior managerial posts in Health Services Management Care for the Aged settings. He holds a B.A. (Hons) in Public Administration from the University of Malta (1986) and a Master’s degree in Health Services Management from the University of Manchester, U.K. (1991). During the latter post graduate studies at the University of Manchester, UK, besides academic subjects, it also included practical experience in health care services management through working attachments at various health care organizations including NHS/Trust hospitals. For the last 12 years, he has occupied the post of Assistant Director, Active Ageing and Community Care Directorate within the Ministry for the Family, Children's Rights and Social Solidarity. He was directly responsible in directing and managing the Active Ageing and Community Care Directorate as well as carrying our research, prepare draft policies as applicable in relation to Active Ageing and care for the Aged living in the community and in Nursing/Residential Homes, and eventual implementation and monitoring of same public policies. He was also directly responsible for coordinating the provision of various elderly services being provided by the Government as well as through Public Private Partnership Schemes. Previously, he occupied the post of Senior Hospital Manager in an acute Gozo General Hospital, Victoria, Gozo, Malta (1987–1996) and in an oncology hospital namely Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, Harper Lane, Floriana, Malta (1996–2005). As Malta’s delegate, during the last 12 years, he has attended various international, UNECE and EU conferences related to Active Ageing and Care for the Aged.
