Clément Cayla-Giraudeau

Clément Cayla–Giraudeau graduated in History and Political Science from the University of Toulouse, before specialising in African Studies at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon–Sorbonne. He has devoted himself to the study of the French–Djiboutian dyad since 2011, while pursuing fieldwork among the Senegalese diaspora in Paris. As a PhD candidate and a part of the quinquennial programme led by the FRAMESPA Laboratory on the “Logics of Empire”, he is currently working on the historical making of Djiboutian–ness, while managing babelmandeb.org, a collaborative website providing the academic community with various resources on the Horn of Africa. The relation between anti–imperialism and nationalism in French Somaliland and postcolonial Djibouti lies at the very heart of his research. Simulta-neously, he is employed by a non–profit organisation (UCRM), which participates in the reception and integration of refugees in France.
