Francesca Polacci received her PhD in Semiotics at the University of Siena, Italy. Her Postdoc fellowship was held at the Institute for Advanced Studies (SUM), Florence—Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa. She is a member of the Centre of Semiotics and Theory of Image “Omar Calabrese” (University of Siena), and of the Scientific Committee of the International Revue Carte Semiotiche. She currently teaches semiotics at the ISIA (Florence) and at the Brera Academy (Milan). Her research interests involve the semiotics of the image, visual studies, art theory, semiotics of photography, inter–semiotic translation, semiotics of design, and communication studies. On these topics she has published several articles, chapters of books, edited volumes, and two monographs: Bisogno furioso di liberare le parole. Tra verbale e visivo: percorsi analitici delle Tavole parolibere futuriste (with D. Tomasello), Le Lettere: 2010; Sui collages di Picasso. Percorsi semiotici e teoria della rappresentazione, il Mulino: 2012. Her most recent publications include some articles on international revues about the relationship between sculpture and photography in Rodin, Brancusi, and Rosso.
