John Brigham is Professor Emeritus of Political Science having last taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has been a Fellow of the International Institute for the Sociology of Law, President of the Law and Courts Section of the American Political Science Association and the New England Political Science Association. He is the author of Material Law (2009), The Constitution of Interests (1996) and The Cult of the Court (1987) as well as other books and articles exploring the social foundations of law.
