Mohamed Hassen è professore di Storia medievale presso l’Ecole Normale Supérieure di Tunisi. Dal 1999 è direttore del U.R. (URHAS, UR PEMIVAT – Settlement and development in Tunisia throughout history). Dal 2013 è membro della Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts (Beit el–Hikma). Dal 2002 al 2005 è stato direttore del Department of History presso la Facoltà di Scienze umanistiche e sociali dell’Università di Tunisi. È stato visiting professor presso le università di Meknes-Fez (2000), Napoli (2002) e Palermo (2010, 2011, 2012).
