Michela Balocchi took her Ph.D. in Sociology and Political Sociology at the University of Florence with a thesis on Gender in Politics. Since 2009 she has been lecturer of Sociology of Cultural Processes at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Florence. As a research fellow at the Collegio IPASVI in 2011 she has conducted a research on immigrants’ access to health care and services at the Careggi hospital. In the last years she has done a research on the Sociological Aspects of the Medicalization of Intersexuality. In September 2011 she took part at the First Intersex Forum in Bruxelles. Among her publications: “Genere” (in Per leggere la società, FUP 2003); “Pertenencia de género y participatión política en Italia” (in “Femminismo/s - Mujer y participación política”, 3, 2004); “Donne imprenditrici nel distretto” (in Il distretto delle donne, FUP 2007); “What Kind of Grassroots E-Participation? The Complex Demand of New Politics in Italy: between Continuity and Innovation (in “International Reports on Socio-Informatics”, V, 1, 2008).
