Neal R. Norrick holds the chair of English Linguistics at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany. His research specializations include conversation, narrative, verbal humor and formulaicity. Professor Norrick acts as Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Pragmatics, and he serves on the advisory boards of the journals Discourse Processes, Humor, International Review of Pragmatics and Text & Talk. He is an elected member of the advisory board of the International Pragmatics Association. Professor Norrick co-edited the Handbook of Pragmatics, vol. 1: Theoretical Foundations (de Gruyter, 2011).
