Andres Mauricio Gonzalez Vargas was born in Cali, Colombia in 1982. He received his BEng degree in mechatronics engineering from Universidad Autónoma de Occidente, Cali, Colombia in 2004, followed by a specialization in biomedical engineering and hospital technology management from the same university in 2007. In 2009 he moved to Barcelona, Spain, where he obtained an MSc in biomedical engineering from Universidad de Barcelona. From 2010 to 2011 he developed his master's thesis in the Automatic Control Lab at ETH Zurich. In 2015 He obtained his PhD degree in computer science, electronics and electrical engineering at Università degli Studi di Pavia.
From 2004 to 2006 he worked as technical support engineer of biomedical equipment for Intelnet Medica (Bogotá), official representatives of Philips Healthcare in Colombia. He has worked as instructor of several biomedical and electrical engineering courses at undergraduate level in universities such as Universidad Santiago de Cali (Cali), Universidad Antonio Nariño (Bogotá) and Escuela Colombiana de Carreras Industriales (Bogotá). During these years he also worked as programmer and database manager for several projects in education, industry and hospital management. He is currently professor at Universidad Autónoma de Occidente.
His research interests include bioinstrumentation, computational biology, rehabilitation devices, medical informatics and clinical engineering.
