Declan Kiberd

Declan Kiberd is Keough Professor of Irish Studies at University of Notre Dame. He has published many books in the field, including Synge and the Irish language (1979); Men and Feminism in Modern Literature (1985); Idir Dhá Chultúr (1992); Inventing Ireland (1995); Irish Classics (2000); The Irish writers and the World (2005); Ulysses and Us: Joyce and the Art of Everyday living (2009). Most recently he has co-edited with PJ Mathews the best-selling Handbook of the Irish Revival: An Anthology of Political and Cultural Writings 1891-1922. He has lectured on Irish Studies in more than thirty countries and been visiting professor at Magdalene College, Cambridge (2002), Duke University (2004), the Sorbonne in Paris (2006). He taught for thirty-three years at University College Dublin, where he was Professor of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama. He has been a Director of the Abbey Theatre, of the Yeats International Summer School, and chair of a government commission on the use of libraries. He is currently Director of the Yeats Winter School.
