Lachezar Georgiev Filipov studied at the National Physical and Mathematical Gymnasiu and then at the Physical Faculty of the Moscow State University Sternberg State Astronomical Institute. The he worked on a space research at the institute at the Soviet Academy of Sciences and Physical Faculty of the Moscow State University. His post graduate research under the supervision of Acad. Ya.B. Zeldovich. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (equivalent to Doctor of Philosophy, PhD) with Thesis on Non-stationary Disc Accretion.
