Giuseppe Miserocchi was born in Milan. He taught physiology to generations of medical students at the University of Milano as a strict and demanding professor. As a pupil of Prof. Margaria, he inherited the interest in respiratory physiology. In 1973 he joined the Italian Everest expedition that gave him the opportunity to study the complex interaction of factors affecting lung oxygen uptake at high altitude.
