Daniel Isaac Hernández Espíndola
Daniel has been involved in the field of languages in higher education for eight years. His areas of expertise comprise: foreign language teaching and translation. Within these activities, he has also been involved in the creation of institutional material, curriculum design, assessment and management.
Moreover, he has published articles on multilingualism and multiculturalism in newspapers and magazines of two Mexican universities. His native language is Spanish and he is certified in English, French, Portuguese, Catalan and German. He is also able to communicate in Italian, Chinese and Russian.
He holds a BA with honours in Modern Languages. His research project was focused on multilingualism, multiculturalism and indigenous students in higher education. Besides, over the past two years he had the opportunity to study the MULTIELE master's program in three different cities in Europe. This program was sponsored by the European Commission through the Erasmus Mundus scheme. He also obtained the Postgraduate Studies Excellence Award granted by the Ministry of Education in Mexico. The master’s program was focused on the teaching of Spanish in multilingual contexts and in teaching, planning and evaluation of Spanish as a foreign or second language in international settings. The international experience he gained has helped him to understand the different realities and views on education and language that exist in different countries.
Currently he pursues PhD studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in the field of Education, focusing on a comparative study of diverse language policies applied to the indigenous languages of Mexico as well as a master's degree in Intercultural Education.
