Amilcar Vargas

He is a PhD Candidate at the University of Barcelona with a research on Community participation in Archaeological World Heritage Sites in Latin America.
He studied a BA at the University of Veracruz, México (2007); an MA in Management of Cultural Institutions and Business and an MA in Cultural Heritage Management (2013) and Museology (2015), both at the University of Barcelona, Spain.
He took part in the Tadinum archaeological project in Gualdo Tadino, Italy, led by the University of Perugia (2005). In Mexico he worked for the INAH as a researcher on the Tajín Project (2007) and as head of the Department of Integral Preservation Management (2008-2009).
He also was director of the Regional Museum and Culture House “La Casa de las Mariposas” at Tlacojalpan, Veracruz (2011) and manager of the Cultural Map of San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya at Oaxaca (2012).
In Spain He led the project “Cultural Itineraries and Brand Management at World Heritage Sites in Catalonia” for the Friends of UNESCO Association (2013).
He worked for Gaudi’s Casa Batlló in 2013, where he had organize the Strategic Management Plan and Periodic Report to be submitted to UNESCO in 2014.
He was a tutor on the Post-graduate Programme in International Cultural Cooperation and Management at the University of Barcelona (2013-2014).
He collaborated with the World Heritage site “Hospital de Sant Pau and Palau de la Música Catalana” for its periodic report to UNESCO (2014).
He was a member of the EU-funded Heritage Values Network project (JPI-JHEP) and was granted by the Science and Technology National Council (CONACYT) from Mexico (2013-2015). In 2015 He did a six-months internship at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, funded by an Erasmus scholarship.
