César A. Alfonso, M.D., Deputy Editor of Psychodynamic Psychiatry is Clinical AssociateProfessor of Psychiatry at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, andtraining and Supervising Analyst at the New York Medical College Psychoanalytic Institute.
He received his BS from Yale University and MD from New York Medical College.
He was a resident in Psychiatry, Chief Resident and Psychosomatic Medicine Fellow at MetropolitanHospital Center in New York.
Alfonso's earlier research career and publications focused on HIV psychiatry, bioethics andpsycho-oncology. His recent body of work includes the study of determinants of treatmentadherence from psychodynamic and attachment theory perspectives.
Dr. Alfonso served as President of the AAPDP from 2010-2012. He is currently serving in thePsychoanalysis in Psychiatry Section of the World Psychiatric Association.
He was Associate Editor and Book Review Editor of the JAAPDP. He has reviewed manuscripts in multiple peerreviewed journals such as Annals of Internal Medicine, Psychosomatics, JAAPDP, andTranscultural Psychiatry. He practices in New York City.
