Krzysztof Paturej
Krzysztof Paturej is an ambassador titular in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. As a career diplomat, he has been interested in multilateral diplomacy, negotiations and security issues – WMD disarmament, non-proliferation and programmes against terrorism. He initiated the establishment of the International Centre for Chemical Safety and Security and still remains engaged in the global promotion of chemical safety and security. In 2012 he received the „Bene merito” Plaque of Honour from the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs for his activeness to strengthen Poland’s position in the international area. From 1994-97 Amb. Paturej was Poland’s Representative to the OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons) Preparatory Commission, and following entry into force of the Chemical Weapons Convention in April 1997, he served as Poland’s first Permanent Representative to the organisation until 2000. He served in a series of roles with the OPCW – as Chair of the OPCW Executive Council in 1998-1999, as Chair of the IX Conference of States Parties to the OPCW in 2004–2005 and as Director of the Office of Special Projects in the Technical Secretariat from 2006-2013. From 2000-2006 he served as Head of the Division on Non-proliferation in the Polish Foreign Ministry. He represented Poland as a national coordinator of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) and Senior Representative of Poland to the G8 Global Partnership from 2003-2005. He served as Chair of the OPCW’s Third Review Conference in April 2013.
