Carlos Rojas-Palma, Ph.D. was awarded in 1992 with the distinction Magna Cum Laude his doctoral degree in Nuclear Physics from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. His career includes two fellowships from the International Atomic Energy Agency and one from the NATO Advanced Study Institute. Dr. Rojas-Palma is currently the project leader of all R&D activities in the area of nuclear emergency response in the Radiation Protection Division of the Belgian Nuclear Research Center. He works since 1994, together with more than 100 European scientists and engineers in the development of the Real-time On-line Decision Support (RODOS) system for nuclear emergency response in Europe. In 1996 Dr. Rojas-Palma was commissioned by the International Atomic Energy Agency to join a group of experts at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN, USA, to take part in the development of InterRAS (International version of RASCAL), which is based on the Accident Consequence Analysis code of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Currently Dr Rojas-Palma leads two European Commission funded research projects: one on Data Assimilation for Off-site Nuclear Emergency Management (DAONEM) and another one on data and information exchange between decision support systems. He also coordinates two thematic clusters (SAMEN & MOSES), which cover the totality of the European Commission research projects and thematic networks on off site nuclear emergency management and site restoration within the European Commission's Nuclear Fission and Radiation Protection Key Action Program.
