Ralf Trapp is an indipendent researcher in the legal and policy advice in the fields of disarmament and non-proliferation, with particular emphasis on the control of chemical and biological weapons. He is also member of the Academy of Sciences of Bologna (non-resident member since 2006), the German Chemical Society, the American Chemical Society and the Association Agréée de Haute Savoie pour les Professions Libérales.
