Andrea Valle

Andrea Valle is associate professor at the Department of Humanities of the University of Torino where he teaches Media Semiotics and Multimedia and Computer music. He received a Ph.D in Semiotics from the University of Bologna. He has written four books (respectively on musical notation, digital audio, film analysis, computer music programming) and has contributed many papers in the fields of semiotics, computer music andmusicology, soundscape, multimedia, cinema. Recently, he has contributed to the volume dedicated to Umberto Eco in the Library of Living Philosophers by discussing Eco’s theory of modes of sign production. Since hisPhD thesis, he has proposed a semiotics of the audible that aims at integrating perceptual aspects into a semiotic context. He is one of the founder of CIRMA (Interdepartmental Centre for Multimedia and Audiovideo) of the University of Torino, which aims at defining an integrate perspective for the study of multimedia, merging human and computational sciences.
