Paolo Angelini, chemist and biologist, has been working for the Italian Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea since 1991.Firstly entrusted with GMOs and then with waste management as well as with air and water pollution prevention, Mr. Angelini has been following since 2001 the activities of the Alpine Convention - an international treaty signed in 1991 aiming at the protection and the sustainable development of the Alpine Region - as Focal Point and then as Head of Delegation.Mr. Angelini has a great experience in international negotiation and cooperation, representing the Italian Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea in the main international fora, (e.g. EU and UN) including several Conferences of the Parties of the UNFCCC.Among the activities of the Alpine Convention (whose Permanent Committee -the Treaty’s executive body- he has chaired in 2013-2014, the period of the Italian in-turn Presidency) a close and long-term attention has been devoted to water, protected areas and risk governance, including the impacts of climate change and the adaptation strategies. Several events and publications – negotiated among the Contracting Parties to the Convention - have been developed on these issues with the active contribution of the Italian Delegation, chaired by Mr. Angelini. In this sense, he improved the synergies between the Alpine Convention and other international organization and treaties, such as the UNECE Water Convention, UNEP, Mountain Partnership, UNFCCC, etc.
