DanielaWaldburger studied Social Anthropology, African Linguistics and General Linguistics at the University of Zurich and holds a PhD in African Studies from the University of Vienna. She has done research in Tanzania (both mainland and Zanzibar), Kenya and Marseille. She is Senior Lecturer (50%) for Swahili at the Department of African Studies at the University of Vienna and beside Swahili also teaches courses on Applied Linguistics. In addition she holds a 50% Post Doc position in the research project “Employment–tied Housing in (post)colonial Africa” at the same department. Her research interests are Non–Standard Varieties of Swahili, Swahili and Societies, Swahili Second Language Acquisition and Discourse Analysis.
