Dirk Bühler

Dr.-Ing. Dirk Bühler studied architecture at the RWTH Aachen University (Germany), where he also received his doctor’s degree with his thesis on The civil architecture during the vice regal period in Puebla, Mexico.
He spent twelve years as an architectural historian and teacher for Latin-American history of architecture in Mexico.
Since 1993 he was curator of the architectural and civil engineering collection at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
There he planned and installed the bridge and hydraulic engineering expositions which were opened in 1998.
From 2004 he was additionally responsible for the temporary expositions of the Museum and from 2007 he was director of the section of the expositions on Technologies.
Since his retirement in December 2015 he works as a Senior Researcher in the research department of the Deutsches Museum (MZWTG).
He published many scientific articles on bridge engineering, a guide to the bridge engineering exposition (also published in Japanese) and reference books.
He also could intensify his research on architecture, urbanism and construction history in Latin-America and published a reference book on the architecture of Puebla, Mexico and many articles. He is a member of ICOMOS and of the Spanish, Mexican and German Societies of History of Construction.
