Giorgio Caravale

I’m currently Assistant Professor of Early Modern European History at the University of Roma Tre. I obtained my M.A degree (laurea) in Political Science and History and my Ph.D. in EarlyModern History at the University of Rome ‘Sapienza’ (1996 and 2000 respectively).I have recently been appointed as the Lauro De Bosis Lecturer in the History of ItalianCivilization at Harvard University for the academic year 2010-2011. I have held Fellowships at the Harvard University Center for Renaissance Studies in Florence, Villa I Tatti (2006-2007), at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America, Columbia University, New York (2009-2010), the Institut d’Histoire de la Réformation of Geneva (2004), the University of Madison,Wisconsin (2005), the Newberry Library of Chicago (2007) and I’ve held post-doctoral fellowshipsat the University of Rome “Sapienza” (2001-2003), the Fondazione Luigi Firpo in Turin (2003-2005), the Fondazione Michele Pellegrino in Turin (2005-2006).I have participated in and contributed to several international conferences and I havecollaborated with a number of national and international research projects (MIUR- PRIN) on Book Censorship and Inquisition in Early Modern Europe. Since 2007 I am a member of an internationalnetwork financed by the European Science Foundation on Reading and Censorship in Early ModernEurope.From 2003 to 2004 I taught Early Modern European History (1400-1800) at the University of Rome ‘Sapienza’, and from 2005 to the present I have taught the same topic at the University of Roma Tre.
