Marco Villani, graduated in Physics, worked at ENEA (the Italian National Agency for New Technology, Energy and Environment) and then at the Environmental Research Centre of Montacatini S.p.A (Montedison Group) as researcher and eventually responsible of the Simulation Laboratory; from 2005 is researcher and professor in Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he also leads the Modelling and Simulation Laboratory. He has written many papers published on international journals and conference proceedings, dealing with nonlinear dynamics, complex systems, artificial intelligence, boolean networks, biological modelling; winner of several national and international awards, Villani and his research group apply complex systems concepts in areas that require strong interdisciplinary interactions.
