Nigel Armstrong
Nigel Armstrong researches French sociolinguistics and translation in the University of Leeds, UK. Linguistic research focuses on social and regional variation in spoken French. Projects in a popular-cultural perspective apply the study of linguistic variation to how dialogue used in popular-cultural products like films and animated cartoons transfers across languages. Translation, Linguistics, Culture (2005) and an article in the «Journal of Specialised Translation», on voicing “The Simpsons” into French, typify this approach.
