Paolo Bernardini is associate professor of Nuclear and subnuclear physics at theUniversità del Salento. At the very beginning of his career at theUniversità di Urbino he studied history of the physics and quantumelectronics. Moved to Lecce in 1988, he started his activity in theastroparticle–research programs of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare. He worked in the MACRO experiment in the underground laboratory at Gran Sasso,in particular took part in the data analysis on atmospheric neutrinos whichled to the discovery of the oscillation phenomenon. Later he worked in theARGO–YBJ experiment at the Yangbajing Laboratory in Tibet, mainly devotedto gamma astronomy and cosmic–ray physics. Since 2000 he is one of theorganizers of the Neutrino Oscillation Workshop (NOW).
