Pierre Manent was born in 1949 in Toulouse, studied Philosophy at the École normale supérieure and Sorbonne, taught Political philosophy at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (Paris), author of many books and articles on the intellectual history of liberalism, the succession of political forms in European history, the role of christian religion in the development of the European form of life.
