Gizele de Souza is a professor, researcher, and mother of two. She holds a degree in Pedagogy from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), a Master’s degree and a PhD in Education: History, Politics, Society from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), with a CAPES doctoral research fellowship (sandwich program) in History of Childhood at the University of Pavia. She completed postdoctoral research at the University of Florence, supported by a CAPES Senior Fellowship.
She has been a Full Professor in the Education Sector of the Federal University of Paraná since July 2022 and is a faculty member of the History and Historiography of Education research line in the Graduate Program in Education at the same university. She is a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow, Level 2.
She was Editor-in-Chief of Educar em Revista (UFPR) from August 2018 to March 2023, having previously served as Deputy Editor of the journal. Since 2023, she has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Revista Brasileira de Educação (RBE - ANPED).
She coordinates NEPIE – Center for Studies and Research on Childhood and Early Childhood Education. In 2020, she obtained approval from the European Commission for the project Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility between Programme and Partner Countries, within the ERASMUS Programme, in partnership with the University of Palermo, Italy.
She coordinated the Technical Cooperation Agreement in Education between UFPR and the University of Pavia (UNIPV), Italy. She serves as a peer reviewer for several national journals in the field of education and is a member of the Scientific Committee of the journal Pedagogia delle differenze – Bollettino della Fondazione Nazionale Vito Fazio-Allmayer, the Scientific Committee of the Archivio Storico INDIRE Collection, Italy, and the Paths of Learning Objects collection published by Pensa Multimedia.
She is a member of the Italian Society of Pedagogy (SIPED), the Brazilian Society for the History of Education (SBHE), and the National Association of Graduate Studies and Research in Education (ANPED). Since 2023, she has been a member of the ANPED-GT07 Scientific Committee on Education of Children from 0 to 6 Years of Age, having previously served as an alternate member of the same committee from 2019 to 2021.
She was a member of the Editorial Committee for Collections and Books of the SBHE from 2019 to 2024. She received the CAPES/2016 Thesis Award as the advisor of the best doctoral thesis in education, defended by Juarez dos Anjos. Also as an advisor, her doctoral student at the time, Franciele Ferreira França, received the Three Minutes Award from the Graduate Studies, Research and Innovation Office (PRPPG) of UFPR.
She participates in the national Working Group on Educational Heritage. She has experience in academic administration, having served on the Sectoral Research Committee of the Education Sector together with the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies (PRPPG/UFPR), as Head and Deputy Head of Department, and as a member of the Education Sector Council. She also collaborates with CAPES committees, including those responsible for PAEP, journal evaluation, and book evaluation.
She also coordinates the Scholarship Committee of the Graduate Program in Education at UFPR.
She has experience in the field of Education, with an emphasis on History of Education, History of Childhood, and Early Childhood Education. Her main areas of research include: history of primary education, history of childhood, history of child welfare, history of early childhood education, school culture, school material culture, congresses and exhibitions, early childhood education, and policy and contextual assessment in early childhood education.
