Erkki Huovinen is a musicologist, philosopher of art, and improvising musician currently active as a Visiting Professor at the University of Minnesota, School of Music. After his doctoral dissertation on the perceptual psychology of music (Turku), much of his research has focused on methodological issues in aesthetics and in various areas of music research.
